Sayed Makhdoom Raheen was formerly the Minister of Information and Culture and is currently Afghanistan's Ambassador to India, one of Afghanistan's most important diplomatic posting.
Dr Raheen was involved in one of the most dynamic periods of Afghanistan's media growth, overseeing the provision of a substantial number of licenses for radio and TV channels and news publications, many of which came into operation after his departure.
Dr Raheen was also the champion of the free press early in his term often defending media and press organisations against attacks from conservative elements.
In this exclusive interview, one of the few since his appointment as Afghanistan's Ambassador to India, he speaks frankly about many issues including those related to media, freedom of expression, the new proposed media laws and various other issues.
