The First Afghan Drama airs on Tolo TV, Another First for Tolo TV and Aria Production
Afghanistan's prime time TV audiences sat down to a piece
of cultural history last night, with the debut of the first Afghan produced
drama series, Raz hae een Khana or "The Secrets of this House" on
TOLO TV. This landmark series is an Aria
TV production, written, produced, acted and directed by Afghans for Afghan
audiences.
Over 23 weekly episodes, Raz hae een Khana will follow
the story of a family visited by an exiled cousin who has returned after 30
years to reclaim the family home in which they live in. It resonates with
issues facing many Afghan families, exploring the themes of tradition and
change, generations and the extended family, all within the contemporary
setting of the post Taliban, redevelopment focused, Afghanistan.
"Its incredible to think our industry has coalesced
in just five years to a stage where we are now fully producing our own drama
series.
"We expect solid support for Raz hae een Khana in
our audiences. We are a market led
organisation, and this series is the result of listening to our audiences'
demand for a local drama that reflects their lives with characters, language
and settings they can relate to," said Saad Mohseni, director of Aria
Production.
Director of Raz hae enn Khana is the self taught and
award winning film maker Roya Sadat.
Sadat, 26, was educated and raised in Herat and she turned to film
making while at University. Her debut
film, 'Se nuqta' or Three Points, has won awards in France and Germany. She
said, "For Raz hae een Khana the rawness of so many elements, including
our actors and locations, has helped to raise the energy and commitment needed
to keep the story alive and engaging.
"My challenge as a director has been to direct this
energy into a sophisticated, real and engaging drama that maintains its
momentum over the entire series. From the start, I have wanted Raz hae een
Khana to capture the hearts of our audiences by making it feel like they are
there, or have been there."
Raz hae een Khana is the first locally produced drama to
air on the market leading network TOLO TV, and it joins a stable of popular
news, entertainment and current affairs programming as its Friday evening
lineup.
